IRELAND V TONGA

Ireland head to the Northwest of France to the beautiful city of Nantes for their second Pool B match. Stade de la Beaujoire will host the match on Saturday, 16 September. Ireland will face the Asia/Pacific 1 qualifier, Tonga. Our packages include flights, transfers, two or three nights accommodation (hotel details will be confirmed at a later date) and those all important tickets to the match.

Nantes

Nantes is a gateway to the beautiful northwest of France, renowned for its connection with its history, the arts, and the outdoors. This is evident just outside the train station; the city’s impressive botanical garden is about 50 metres outside the door, and the awe-inspiring Château des Ducs de Bretagne is just two tram stops away. In the city’s old shipyards, you’ll find the Machines of the Isle of Nantes, a collection of machine animals that are a living art installation and one of the city’s must-sees. Green spaces are sprinkled around the city, and beyond the city limits are charming fairytale villages and idyllic farms, the latter of which fuel the region’s dairy industry (which is the strongest in France). This might explain the impressive use of cheese and butter in the area’s food. Bon appetit!

Sozo Hotel Nantes

Set in a 19th-century chapel with stained-glass windows, this boutique hotel has a 24/7 reception and is located opposite the Botanic Garden in the centre of Nantes. An iPod dock features in the design rooms and a minibar is offered in some rooms.

La Rochelle

Capital of the Charente-Maritime, La Rochelle is well known for its beautiful port. Protected by the Chaîne tower and the Saint-Nicolas tower, the old port has inspired numerous artists. After a stroll on the quays, the visitor is encouraged to follow the stunning narrow streets of the old town. It is packed with fascinating mansions, Renaissance residences, and old timber-framed houses. The many shops lining the pedestrian streets and under the arcades are perfect for fans of shopping.

The main Renaissance building of the town hall dates back from the 15th and 16th centuries and features a surrounding wall of Flamboyant Gothic style. It certainly is a building not to be missed! A visit of the city carries on with the Fine art museum, the New World Museum which is dedicated to the history of the relations between La Rochelle and the Americas, the natural history museum and the Orbigny-Bernon museum displaying earthenware collections, carvings, and paintings.

The immense Minimes port is entirely dedicated to sailing and attracts sailors from all over the world. Close to the old port, the aquarium of La Rochelle allows those who enjoy the marine world to encounter fauna and flora of the seas and oceans of the globe.
